The White Post for which the town in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley is named stands at the intersection of White Post and Berrys Ferry Road. It provides direction indicators as seen here for east-west travelers, as well as for Battletown, now known as Berryville (to the north) and Greenway Court (to the south), which are not visible in this view.
Greenway Court was built by Lord Thomas Fairfax, who hired George Washington (as a surveyor, prior to his later military and government careers), resulting in the establishment of the first of many similar white posts here. While directionally helpful, don’t count on getting gas for your vehicle here. The Village Association restored the nostalgic gas station building purely as part of the scenery.
